Massive DHS Data Breach Exposes 40,000 Employees, Including ICE and Border Patrol Agents

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is grappling with a catastrophic data breach that has potentially exposed the personal information of approximately 40,000 employees and contractors, including thousands of ICE and Border Patrol agents. Sources have confirmed the authenticity of portions of the leaked data, which reportedly includes names, titles, locations, and in some cases, phone numbers and email addresses of personnel. Notably, the exposed records encompass around 10,000 ICE employees and over 20,000 U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel, with some leaked documents containing the identities of undercover ICE agents. The anti-fascist hacking group ‘Department of Peace’ has claimed responsibility for the breach, releasing the information via Distributed Denial of Secrets, which has created a tool for public searching, aiming to ‘replace anonymity with accountability.’ A DHS spokesperson acknowledged awareness of a potential breach and stated the department is working swiftly to address the situation and ensure employee protection, emphasizing their serious approach to security threats. This incident follows a recent Pentagon data breach that exposed sensitive personal information of over 2.76 million military and civilian personnel, raising significant concerns about the security of government employee records.
