GOP Chair Slams ‘Racial Intimidation’ After KKK-Themed Sign Appears During Black Speaker’s Remarks

Minnesota’s Republican Party chairman has vehemently condemned a protest that disrupted the Lincoln Reagan Dinner, accusing demonstrators of racial intimidation after a sign invoking the Ku Klux Klan was displayed during remarks by the state’s first Black female House Speaker, Lisa Demuth. Alex Plechash, the state GOP chair, stated that “radical protesters stormed the stage… and held up a KKK symbol while Speaker Lisa Demuth spoke,” denouncing the act as targeting a “Black woman leader” with a “symbol of racial terror” at an event honoring Abraham Lincoln. The progressive group Sunrise Movement Twin Cities claimed responsibility, asserting their protest was against Republican policies they believe harm marginalized communities, though they denied affiliation with the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. Video footage captured protesters holding a sign with “KKK” highlighted in red, while one shouted, “You love Trump and you will not stand up for Minnesotans.” Following the disruption, attendees chanted “Lisa” and “USA” as security removed the protesters. Plechash criticized the silence of Minnesota Democrats, including Senator Amy Klobuchar and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, stating that “Intimidation, criminal behavior, and racist rhetoric have no place in Minnesota politics” and that their silence is “deafening” as Republicans “debate ideas.”
