A fugitive wanted for nearly 14 years in the alleged kidnapping and shooting of an Iowa woman was arrested in San Diego after authorities said he reinvented himself as a popular chef, even appearing in local news segments under a fake name while hiding from law enforcement. Brian Anthony Williams, 50, was arrested Tuesday at Miss B’s Coconut Club in Mission Beach, California, where he had been working as ‘Troy Williams’ for over eight years, having been wanted since 2012 for first-degree kidnapping, assault causing serious injury, conspiracy to commit a felony, and first-degree arson, later adding unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Coworkers and his former roommate described him as a well-loved member of the restaurant family, stunned by the allegations, while Williams himself had spoken in a recent local media profile about overcoming adversity and the importance of kindness. Investigators were reportedly alerted to his whereabouts after someone recognized him from a media interview, leading federal agents to track him to the restaurant where he was taken into custody without incident and now awaits extradition to Iowa.
