Dem Accuses Rival of Donor-Funded Lavish Lifestyle, But His Own Campaign Records Show Similar Spending

A House Democrat leveled accusations against his Republican opponent for allegedly “living the good life” on donor money, citing campaign expenditures at Disney World. However, a closer examination of the Democrat’s own campaign finance records reveals nearly $20,000 spent on domestic and international travel with his spouse, including trips to Disney World, a five-star hotel in the UAE, and dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Zurich. The accusations were made in October 2025, months after the Democrat himself posted photos from his own Disney World trip with his wife and associates, coinciding with campaign payments to the theme park totaling over $1,100. Beyond Disney, the campaign’s spending trail includes thousands of dollars at upscale restaurants and hotels across the U.S. and Europe. One 2024 trip to the UAE, reportedly using campaign funds, incurred over $13,000 in airfare and hotel costs, with social media posts showing the congressman and his wife enjoying sightseeing and luxury accommodations. While campaign funds can legally cover travel for spouses when directly related to campaign or official duties, personal vacations or expenses unrelated to official business are prohibited without reimbursement. The Democrat’s campaign manager stated all spending is legal and publicly disclosed, attributing international trips with his wife to official business, including a visit with the Pope and a cultural exchange trip to Morocco. Despite these explanations, the campaign’s public disclosures for some expenditures, like the Disney trips, are broadly listed as ‘travel expenses,’ leaving the specific campaign or official activity unclear.
