Miracle Rescue: 72-Year-Old Hiker Found Alive After 100-Foot Fall and Days Lost

In a remarkable display of resilience and a testament to dedicated search efforts, 72-year-old Mary Beth Granbery has been found alive days after a harrowing 100-foot fall in the rugged Northern California wilderness. Granbery embarked on a multiday camping trip on September 28th and was expected back by October 1st. When she failed to return, her concerned family reported her missing, triggering a massive search operation. The breakthrough came when family members located her camper van at the Cabin Creek Trailhead, leading Siskiyou and Shasta County Sheriff’s Offices, along with search and rescue teams, to converge on the area. On October 4th, ground crews discovered Granbery near Cabin Creek, alive but severely injured from her fall, exhibiting signs of exposure and disorientation. The California Highway Patrol Air Operations played a critical role, hoisting Granbery from the treacherous terrain and airlifting her to a waiting air ambulance, ultimately transporting her to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Officials confirmed she is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, a miraculous outcome given the circumstances.
