Nobu Chef Sleeping in Car Killed by Speeding Teen Driver

A beloved 25-year veteran chef at Nobu Malibu, Ryo Uchimiya, 51, was tragically killed while sleeping in his parked car before his shift when a 16-year-old boy, reportedly speeding in a Range Rover, crashed into the rear of his sedan. The impact, captured on surveillance footage, propelled Uchimiya’s car into two other vehicles, resulting in fatal blunt force injuries for the chef. While investigators found no indication of impairment, the incident occurred on a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway notorious for dangerous speeding, a problem recently addressed by the Malibu City Council. The teenage driver appeared shocked and confused, with witnesses suggesting he might not have had a license. Uchimiya, remembered as a talented chef and devoted husband and father of two, leaves behind a grieving family and a devastated Nobu Malibu staff.
