K-9 Otis Sniffs Out Massive Cocaine Haul During California Traffic Stop

In a remarkable display of canine detection, K-9 Otis of the Alhambra Police Department played a pivotal role in dismantling a major drug operation during a routine traffic stop. The incident unfolded on Valley Boulevard when officers pulled over an SUV laden with an unusual quantity of cardboard boxes, prompting suspicion from the officers who quipped the driver was carrying more boxes than Amazon on Prime Day. The driver offered conflicting stories about his cargo, initially claiming the boxes weren’t his and he was en route to his cousin’s, then changing his narrative to delivering diesel parts. It was K-9 Otis, with his highly trained nose, who ultimately cracked the case. Otis alerted officers to the vehicle, leading to the discovery of approximately 200 kilos, or roughly 440 pounds, of cocaine concealed within the SUV. The driver, Julio Rangel of Huntington Park, was subsequently arrested. K-9 Otis has been lauded as the hero of the bust, earning widespread praise and playful suggestions of promotion and rewards for his exceptional work in seizing a significant amount of illicit drugs.
