Hours before allegedly fatally stabbing a Pittsburgh pediatrician and critically injuring his wife during a midnight home invasion, suspect Elijah Hemingway, 32, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in public and stealing her phone. Police state the Wilkinsburg attack on the woman occurred Wednesday morning, with authorities later recovering the victim’s phone and other evidence linking Hemingway to the assault. This revelation comes as Hemingway faces charges including rape, sexual assault, and robbery in addition to the homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and trespassing charges related to the Thursday morning incident where Dr. Idris Evans, 46, was killed and his wife injured while they slept. The wife reported the intruder appeared “psychotic” and claimed to be “God,” and she believed her husband knew the attacker, though police could not confirm a prior relationship. Hemingway’s account of the night, which included claims of being invited into the home and sustaining a stab wound, was contradicted by police findings. Court records reveal Hemingway has a criminal history and was released without bail in July on a prior burglary charge.
