A 76-year-old Florida man, Charles Ducking of Lake Wales, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, just four months after a previous DUI arrest, authorities announced. Ducking was pulled over by a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy for swerving on U.S. Highway 27, where the deputy detected the odor of alcohol and observed slurred speech and watery eyes. Ducking admitted his driver’s license was suspended due to a prior DUI and stated he had been drinking rum from a thermal cup. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a small container with cocaine, to which Ducking allegedly confessed to having used cocaine just 10 minutes prior to being stopped. Field sobriety tests indicated impairment, and breathalyzer results showed a blood alcohol content above Florida’s legal limit. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd commented on the arrest, stating Ducking is fortunate he hasn’t caused a fatality while driving impaired and high on drugs, emphasizing the need for serious life changes. This marks Ducking’s fourth or subsequent DUI offense, along with charges for cocaine possession, driving with a suspended license, and drug paraphernalia possession. Records indicate Ducking has a history of multiple DUI arrests dating back to 2001, including one in May of the same year where he was released on bond with the condition of abstaining from alcohol.
