A former Democratic fundraiser, Lindy Li, has exposed what she describes as a ‘pyramid scheme’ within the 2024 election fundraising apparatus, alleging that top party operatives misled donors and misallocated vast sums of money, particularly from Kamala Harris’s billion-dollar war chest. In her new book, “Unburdened,” Li details how the Democratic National Committee (DNC) rewarded operatives who perpetuated the ‘obvious lie’ of President Biden’s fitness for office, while dissenters were cut off. She claims that fundraising metrics were inflated through accounting gimmicks and ‘poaching’ donors, allowing some to claim millions without raising substantial new funds. The campaign, according to Li, funneled over half a billion dollars to four major media contracting companies, which collected exorbitant fees, with approximately 15% of the total expenditures going to these consultants—a ‘bigger grift’ than the often-cited ‘10% for the big guy.’ This enrichment of well-connected insiders, she argues, occurred while essential campaign efforts faltered, citing lavish spending on luxury travel, high-end hotels, and promotional items instead of strategic investments in crucial swing states like Philadelphia. Li expressed disbelief that donors, many of whom liquidated their savings to ‘save democracy’ and out of fear of Donald Trump, were subjected to such practices, stating, “Everyone knew, everyone played along.”
