A Massachusetts restaurant owner is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting two teenagers who fled his establishment without paying their $92.40 bill, and then brandishing a firearm at a crowd that gathered. Nadim Kashouh, 62, reportedly chased the teens, a 17-year-old girl and 18-year-old Javonnie Lee, after they left Nadim’s Downtown Mediterranean Grill without settling their tab. According to police, Kashouh apprehended the pair at a convenience store, where he allegedly grabbed the girl’s phone and demanded payment. He is accused of then elbowing the girl and punching Lee in the face. As a larger group of people congregated, Kashouh is said to have pointed his firearm in their direction, claiming self-defense. Police have seized Kashouh’s weapon and his permit to carry. He has been charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery with a firearm, and assault and battery. The teens are expected to face criminal complaints for defrauding a restaurant. Kashouh maintains his innocence, asserting he acted in self-defense, and his legal team plans to present the full facts of the case, highlighting his quarter-century of service to the Springfield community and the support he has received.
