A former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Utah, Damon Matai Seei, has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly discarding more than 300 mail-in ballots intended for voters in Eagle Mountain ahead of the state’s primary election. Prosecutors claim Seei, on June 3, separated the ballots, clearly marked as such, from other mail shortly after beginning his shift and dumped them approximately 90 minutes later, without delivering a single one. This alleged act of unlawful secretion, destruction, and delay of mail came to light after numerous voters complained to the Utah County Clerk about not receiving their ballots. Investigations revealed an unusually low voter participation rate in the affected area, prompting a joint probe by the USPS Office of Inspector General and Homeland Security Investigations. While Seei has reportedly told investigators he lacked a political motive, the Department of Justice emphasizes the seriousness of such actions in undermining election integrity, stating, “Ballot integrity is not a partisan issue.” Federal officials are continuing to investigate to determine if affected voters were able to cast ballots and are planning to contact them directly. Seei, arrested on Tuesday, made his initial court appearance and faces a subsequent hearing on November 30.
