Sylvester Stallone admitted he was completely blindsided when President Donald Trump announced him as a special ambassador to Hollywood, learning of the appointment while watching television. Trump had declared Stallone, alongside Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, as “Special Envoys” to be his “eyes and ears” in Hollywood with the goal of bringing film and television production back to the U.S. Stallone, however, confessed to The Sunday Times that he initially found the idea unfeasible, explaining, “If they had asked me in the beginning, I would have said, ‘This is not possible.’” He elaborated on his reservations, likening Hollywood to “feudal states” with “little kingdoms” where one cannot simply dictate terms to major studios. He ultimately informed Trump, “I said thank you and ciao, because it’s impossible. Hollywood works, and it will evolve.” Despite this, Stallone has shown support for Trump, even introducing him at an event and praising him as a “mythical character” and the “second George Washington,” though his political contributions have historically been bipartisan. Meanwhile, Jon Voight has actively embraced his ambassador role, advocating for federal film tax incentives, and claims Stallone has been involved by signing their letters, even while busy with his television show.
