The anomaly was first spotted by TSA Officer Andrew Carter during X-ray screening, who noted the flashlight’s unusual composition. Upon closer inspection, Supervisory TSA Officer Michael Slaughter found a hidden compartment within the flashlight’s lining, which detached to reveal the knife. The passenger initially claimed ignorance but later admitted to intentionally hiding the weapon to save space, leading to his arrest and inability to travel. Experts highlight that while concealed blades are sometimes found, this case is particularly concerning due to the passenger’s admission of deliberate concealment, which falls under ‘artful concealment’ and poses a significant security risk.
