The tech giants had raised the prices of their PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2025 due to US-imposed tariffs, a decision that impacted gamers directly. However, after the US Supreme Court declared these tariffs illegal earlier this year, companies became eligible to claim refunds for the duties paid. Despite this development and the opportunity to recoup these costs, both Sony and Microsoft are maintaining that these potential refunds do not translate into a requirement to reimburse their customers, effectively keeping the financial benefit solely for themselves and leaving gamers out of pocket for the earlier price hikes.
