Marine veteran Robert Gilman has finally returned home after enduring a harrowing 1,660-day “nightmare” in Russian custody, but harrowing details reveal his ordeal has left him “very frail” and in desperate need of extensive physical, mental, and psychological care, according to family representative Kieran Ramsey. Gilman, who was unable to walk off the plane unassisted, reportedly suffered “physical torture, forced medication and provocations by the Russian government,” as Sen. Ed Markey stated, with Ramsey emphasizing the severe physical and mental abuse Gilman endured. Gilman’s ordeal began after he fell seriously ill while traveling to Moldova, subsequently being arrested on what are widely considered false charges of assaulting police officers, a tactic Ramsey believes is part of a broader Russian pattern of targeting Americans, particularly former Marines, and fabricating charges. Highlighting the cases of Trevor Reed and Paul Whelan, Ramsey urged President Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff to secure the release of the “at least ten other Americans” his firm represents who are still held captive, crediting Trump for Gilman’s return and expressing hope for the swift liberation of those remaining.
