German authorities are conducting an intensive manhunt for Abdul Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese descent, who is the prime suspect in a horrific attack near Berlin’s Pride festival. Officials believe the incident, which saw a van plow into a crowd and the suspect subsequently attack individuals with a machete, was an act of Islamic terrorism. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated, “Everything we see here points to us dealing with an Islamic terror attack.” Ballout, known to authorities for multiple previous offenses and his ties to the “Islamist scene,” was born in Germany and became a naturalized citizen. The attack, which occurred Saturday night in Tiergarten park, resulted in one fatality and at least 29 injuries, including three life-threatening cases. The van crashed into a tree before the suspect fled. Police have searched multiple locations but have not yet apprehended Ballout, who is considered armed and dangerous. The victims, a mix of Pride attendees and park-goers, were injured a few hundred yards from the main Christopher Street Day celebrations, prompting organizers to halt the event.
