Peltola Denies Knowledge of ‘Decoy Dan’ Scheme Amid Accusations of Lying

Alaska Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola has vehemently denied any knowledge of a scheme to recruit a candidate with the same name as her opponent, Dan Sullivan, to run in the election, a plan allegedly orchestrated by her campaign and senior aides at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to confuse voters and siphon support from the incumbent Republican. Peltola asserted during a speech that she was unaware of any candidates beyond herself and the incumbent, stating, “I knew nothing about any other candidates on the ballot except for me and the incumbent. That is all I have ever known about. I am not interested in tricking voters. I know I can beat Dan Sullivan.” However, Senator Sullivan countered these claims in an interview with Fox News, branding Peltola’s campaign’s alleged actions as “the most corrupt action you could take” and accusing her of “still lying” about the matter. He further elaborated that the strategy was a “secret project” developed over a year, designed to “cheat” and ensure Alaskans “throw away their votes.” The controversy has prompted the Justice Department to seek a delay in certifying the election results, as two individuals named Dan Sullivan appear on the ballot, with one, a retired schoolteacher, being dubbed “Decoy Dan” by critics. Sullivan expressed that this alleged scheme demonstrates “disdain” for the Alaskan people, calling it “the biggest scandal in Alaskan electoral history by far” and vowing that Alaskans are “not dumb” and that the scandal will not prevent his victory.
